Disclaimer: Yello80s cannot identify or price any dolls or products. The information you find on the Cabbage Patch pages is as up to date as possible and for entertainment only. There are many good online guides to help you figure out what year your ‘Kid was made in and independent craftsmen/women who do beautiful jobs restoring, rerooting hair and customizing ‘Kids. Are gathered from reader submissions of their dolls’ names or auctions for vintage dolls or their adoption paperwork as well as found through thrift store and yard sales. The list is compiled as an online source to satisfy curiosity, foster nostalgia and perhaps serve as a guide to rename your ‘Kid. Again, Yello80s cannot identify CPKs by names. Yello80s does not participate in selling CPK through this site. The very 1st 1,000 handmade dolls were taken from a 1937 baby name book.
Hand printed the name tags which accompanied his babies and printed each ‘‘ with his own fists (as the footprints). Otis Lee, who starred in one of the books, was the name of one of the original kids Xavier created before naming them Little People. Hailey Theeuwen was the first -produced Cabbage Patch Kid. Side note: While Furskins were given a name at manufacturing, they were not unique like the ‘Kids’ names supposedly were. Also, Koosa pets did not come with a name.
They had a blank collar tag you had to send in to have printed with a name of your choosing. The most memorable feature about to me was their ridiculous names. Long before started picking goofy names for her progeny, Xavier Roberts and the gang were turning celebrity names around to come up with truly awful monikers for 80s kids like me to put in some drawer and rename their ‘Kids ( Hudson Rock? Here are some genuine CPK names I’ve gathered from the web in reference to no particular manufacturing year: Farica Scarlett Paola Paul Babette Jocelyne Radford Jervis Myra Hope Floyd Herb Norine Marietta Landon Chauncey Cherry Cathyleen Russ Sebastian Laraine Cammie Denney Alex Ariel Leila Derek Edric Lucette Jacynth Sheldon Rex Desirae Chandelle Richie Donald Lanette Ariana Oscar Dick Lora Julita Jeremy Ike Jovany Lincoln Milton Reece. According to Coleco at the time, each Kid was entirely unique and had a unique name. That being said, in the 80s there were reports of people seeing duplicate doll heads in factories overseas. To counter this, Coleco stated that though head molds were used multiple times, the eye and hair colour combinations, etc truly made each Kid separate from the others.
As for the names, well personally I think they did have a few reused ones but as Coleco was taken over by Hasbro in the late 80s I think we’ll probably never know for sure. Glad your great granddaughter is catching Cabbage Patch fever! Unfortunately Yello80s is not able to locate names of previous ‘Kids because as far as I can find, Coleco did not keep a list of the names they used at the time and the ‘Kids have changed hands several times since Coleco was made defunct. There are some links on my main that might help you with information and the original ‘Kids by Xavier Roberts were named out of a depression -era baby name book so if you were looking for an authentic name, something from the 1930s would be accurate.
Ebay.com also has a guide to the signatures by colour and what years those correspond to. Happy hunting-sounds like you got a real nice baby ?. Hello Bernice- Well the bad news is that Coleco, who made the CPKs during those years has long gone out of business and the Kids have changed hands several times and so have their head moulds. Per which is the official site for CPK, you can’t get a re-issue of a previous Kid, only order a new one that’s close enough. If you’re checked all your relatives’ attics and still can’t find Tabitha, I’d go to eBay for a kid from that era who may not be Tabitha but a darn site closer. I would search “Cabbage Patch girl brown hair” or “Cabbage Patch girl 1984” etc.
To see what comes up. You can set search alerts on eBay as well (I have a CPK one that delivers about 1500 new listings daily).
Now for that pesky birth certificate- if you don’t remember Tabitha’s middle name you can very well search for a CPK birth certificate / adoption papers for a Kid named Tabitha. Many people just sell the unopened papers and though that sort of search will only pull up listings where the seller has actually listed the name on the papers (sometimes they don’t), again you’ve got an okay chance of finding some to substitute.
Best of luck! I believe Cabbage Patch Kids will fit into a Newborn size outfit if you’re looking for one of the younger dolls but otherwise- eBay is chock full of them! Just search for vintage Cabbage Patch Kid clothes or Original Cabbage Patch kid clothes or throw in some descriptive terms (dress, colour, etc). I’ve found adorable vintage footwear, glasses and just about anything else you’d want.
Etsy.com is also a great resource- if you can’t find vintage clothes I’m sure you find someone who makes them for a custom order. Happy hunting! Unfortunately there is no way of tracking down dolls by name to have re-issued or to find the original doll through Cabbage Patch proper- supposedly all ‘Kids are unique and were not renamed. I’m sure I totally believe this but that was the story anyhow from Babyland General. They go on to say: “Check our website or visit BabyLand General Hospital to see the latest crop of Cabbage Patch Kids currently available. If you are looking for a particular skin tone, eye color or hair color, it is very likely we will have something similar to what you remember. If you want a baby with a specific name, you may try our renaming option to get the name you want.
The Cabbage Patch Kids available for adoption today may not be identical to earlier Cabbage Patch Kids as styles have changed. So you may be able to find a similar doll or check eBay for something similar. Sorry that wasn’t a better answer!
Wow that’s really cool you were such a thoughtful kid! Unfortunately I have no idea how to find out about a ‘Kid by name only but these two guides are really good at other identifyng factors and are just plain fun to read:.
I’m not sure how to even go about finding out more as Coleco sold out to Hasbro in the 90s and being so huge, I doubt Hasbro kept any records on the previous editions of company products they bought out other than moulds. That’s the only other place I can think of though- Hasbro. There isn’t an official CPK names list from the company that I know of and believe me, I’ve looked. I made this list up from my own personal curiosity and nostalgia- I literally comb through eBay, online sites, friends, toy shoppes, etc etc to pick up names that were used on actual CPKs. If it’s true (the company alleges it is) that names aren’t re-used, then hopefully you have unique ‘Kids and that’s that. I’m adding them to the Yello80s list though so it stays the biggest and best list on the web!
I don’t see why not. Very early soft sculpture dolls didn’t always have names and the birth certificate/adoption papers thing were native to the Coleco dolls in the 80s which carried over up to the current ones. As far as getting papers for it- I don’t see that the official company does any which I think is really crappy because what would it take to issue papers on CPK official letterhead? If you’re buying new you can go to the official site and search in the Exclusive Kids section – you can sort Kids by colour, birthdate, name, etc and choose that way but can’t like, issue your own name: Then again I’m sure someone on Pinterest has a printout or something you can make your own papers from. I’ve looked around for her too but can’t find anything- I always say go right to eBay because it’s jam packed with CPKs and I’ve gotten 3 extremely good condition original Koosas with tags on there for under $15 each but you have to do some shopping because I notice a lot of the descriptions do not include the original names but often will include photos of the adoption papers you can confirm with there. There was also a woman named Diana who used to do gorgeous custom dolls and repairs but no longer does this. Her site definitely is worth a look-.
Facebook has a that teaches restoration techniques- I would take a look there and see if you can’t find someone to do a custom doll for you if you don’t find any luck on auction sites. I thought thewas doing customs but can’t find it on there anymore.
They do have a ‘ w/o boxes you might want to comb through and see if you find something close to Alisa on there as you can narrow search by Kid features. I’ve looked around for him but can’t find anything- I always say go right to eBay because it’s jam packed with CPKs and I’ve gotten 3 extremely good condition original Koosas with tags on there for under $15 each but you have to do some shopping because I notice a lot of the descriptions do not include the original names but often will include photos of the adoption papers you can confirm with there. I thought thewas doing customs but can’t find it on there anymore. They do have a ‘ w/o boxes you might want to comb through and see if you find something close to Jeffy on there as you can narrow search by Kid features. Thanks for sharing about your CPK baby! I would look on ebay- I have an alert set up for CPK stuff and there are always people selling separate papers- the thing is you have to look at the photos.
Few sellers include the baby name in their listing but they usually have detailed photos. I have seen international papers sold in lots as well. You can also set up an eBay search notice for just adoption papers so you don’t get all the doll stuff. My other try would be to contact and see if they can issue you a certificate (I’m sure they would charge) if you don’t need it to be an original. Lovey, according to the official cabbage patch kid site: How can I determine the value of my Cabbage Patch Kid or Little Person? There are literally hundreds of thousands of different Cabbage Patch Kids that have been delivered in the past 30 plus years making it impossible for us to monitor individual values.
The true value of an individual Cabbage Patch Kid or Little Person is the re-adoption fee a third party might be willing to give you for your specific Kid or Baby. In order to request maximum value for your Cabbage Patch Kid from a collector, you should be able to provide the baby’s original adoption papers and original clothing. Vague, I know.
While the resale value of Cabbage Patch dolls varies widely, owners or those wishing to purchase a doll can join the manufacturer's Collector's Club, where they can communicate with others wishing to buy or sell Cabbage Patch dolls. Another popular way to sell Cabbage Patch dolls is through Ebay or similar auction websites.
Those wishing to buy Cabbage Patch dolls can get a good idea of how much individual dolls are worth by looking at similar doll listings online. Owners wishing to sell Cabbage Patch dolls should note that possession of the doll's original adoption papers and original clothing can increase the worth of the doll significantly. Replacement adoption papers can be requested for Handstitched Soft Sculptured Originals models only. To request replacement adoption papers, please contact the manufacturer with the following details: front and back photos of the doll unclothed, the original name of the doll, the name of the first owner of the doll, and the doll's registration number. Cabbage Patch dolls, originally known as Little People, became a popular toy in the early 1980s.
The first dolls were made of material through a process known as needle molding and came with their own individualized birth certificates. The Little People line was bought by the toy company Coleco, who changed the name to Cabbage Patch Kids, at which point they were made of a combination of fabric and vinyl.
There have been many types of Cabbage Patch Kid toys since they first appeared. Each of the subsequent licensing companies, including Hasbro, Toys R Us and Mattel, have offered specialty lines that do tricks, have special clothing or relate to occasions like the Birthday Kids line.
Original dolls and those still made by Xavier Roberts, the original doll maker, can fetch anywhere from six to 10 times the amount of a mass-produced and licensed version of the toy. The dolls made by Roberts himself are called Cabbage Patch Original Kids to distinguish them from the dolls licensed by toy companies. The value of Cabbage Patch dolls depends on their rarity and their popularity with collectors. For example, a set of dolls based on the 2008 United States Presidential candidates was listed for more than $59,000 and a doll based on Donald Trump was listed for nearly $7,000.
